HISTORY

Way back in 1962 the 5 Milers Folk Music Group started performing.  Original members were Terry Bigalke*, Tom Jones* Rob Billings* Jim Croxson and Bill Bennett.  In 2006 Nancy Burleson (Corr) and in 2007 Lauren Mai joined the group as Jim and Bill retired. With performers living in Hawaii, Florida, Arkansas, and Wisconsin the 5 Milers only perform one or two weekends a year.  We would love to play in your state or country.  We are now booking for 2009.   Contact rbillings@new.rr.com

 * Original 5 Miler

The 1960's were a wonderful time to grow up as the music of the Weavers and Limelighters were giving way to The Kingston Trio, Peter Paul & Mary, Chad Mitchell Trio, and on to The New Christy Minstrels, We 5 and the Momma's and Poppa's.

5 Milers at the Green Apple Society
Buboltz Stage 2008.
  An evening with the Milers, great music, great crowd, lots of fun for all.
Our 2008 Reunion developed in three stages, Performing at the Wolf River Theater in New London, a benefit for the Wisconsin Veterans Home in King, Wisconsin, and a concert at the Green Apple Music Society on the Buboltz Stage in Appleton.  The great audiences and standing ovations were much appreciated!  thank you.
On Stage at the Wolf River Theater in New London Wisconsin. A beautiful old theater where the audience is up close and friendly. Two sets of great music, with a crowd that appreciated Folk Music and really got into the sing-along section of the performance.  What a fun place to perform. The acoustics are great and the old theater has been restored to be a wonderful place to visit and perform.
ON TO THE SHAWANO FOLK MUSIC FESTIVAL, in August of 2007. The 5 Milers performed outside, in tents and on the Main Stage over the 3 day weekend. In August of 2007 we performed for three days at the Shawano Folk Music Festival.  Terry arrived on the red eye from Hawaii about ten minutes before it was time to go on. We handed him a guitar and said SING !   Three days flew by.  We highly recommend this festival!  Great people who love Folk Music and a real bargain.
Nothing like a benefit for the Veterans!  Wisconsin Veterans Home in King, Wisconsin.  Wonderful people who did so much for us. How do you say thank you to people who gave up so much to keep our country free?  We were honored to perform a benefit on Saturday afternoon for the veterans and their spouses.  Such great people who all gave so much of themselves and their country. We hope to go back next year if our reunion weekend is in Wisconsin.
REUNION OF THE MILERS IN 2006 At Neenah High School Class of 1966 Reunion    OUR 20 +20 Reunion-no one wanted to say 40! Tom and Terry and Rob were asked to reunite the Milers in October of 2006 to play for our 20+20 Class Reunion.  Nancy Burleson (Corr) class of 1966 stepped in for Jim and we borrowed Bill Jorgenson's base player Leaf.   We had such a great time we decided to get together again the next year.  This created a little problem as band members live in Hawaii, Arkansas, and Florida as well as good old Wisconsin.
AS ROB REMEMBERS IT AS TOM REMEMBERS IT AS TERRY REMEMBERS IT
While I believe my $6 guitar purchase was first, I remember Tom having all the musical talent and teaching himself how to play the banjo and guitar. To this day Tom arranges all the music.  Terry had the great voice and it all worked out well. Our next $40 Harmony Guitars were so much better! After performing for a few years we moved up to a Vega Banjo, Martin 6 and 4 Strings, and a Gibson 12,...Wow the Big Time. I was thinking about the dates in our history, and you started teaching me on your first guitar in the spring of 1963.   I recall that because I worked at Gardner Dam during the summer of 1963, and just prior to that I bought Jim's old 4 string banjo when we decided to form the group.  Our first show was the Big & Little Sister party at NHS in Sept. or Oct. of 1963, the fall of our sophomore year

Terry is in Hawaii, would you write here if you could be in Honolulu??
